We live in a world driven by systems we create and others that tend to develop beyond our control and most importantly there is mother nature and her own ecosystem. Understanding how and why systems develop is a critical aspect in carrying out design research when trying to innovate.
The Research and Innovation subject (DSGN6029) forms an important part of the Master of Design and Master of Digital Transformation & Creative Intelligence for Torrens University Australia and uses a short video by Ben Weiss to introduce fractals and how nature uses a simple formula to develop complex and sustainable systems.
By understanding fractals, we can also begin to understand the nature and development of complex systems in design research and use this thinking as we move towards potential design strategies through design research.
